About Asian Americans

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the Asian-American population grew by 43% between 2000 and 2010 to more than 15 million. The Asian-American population comprises six groups that account for 86 percent of the Asian-American population (22% Chinese, 20% Indian, 18% Filipino, 11% Vietnamese, 10% Korean, and 5% Japanese). The three next largest groups, Pakistanis, Hmong, and Cambodians together account for another 6% of the Asian-American population.

The State of Illinois is home to 600,000 Asian Americans, and 60,000 Asian-American-owned businesses.

About Asian-American Entrepreneurship

Asian-American businesses are also the fastest growing in 12 states across the country. Asian-American businesses cover all major industry sectors, generate more than $500 billion in economic output to the U.S. economy, are nearly three times as likely to generate sales through exports, and create almost 3 million jobs annually.

According to the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Minority Business Development Agency, one in four minority businesses is owned by an Asian American. Asian-American businesses generate more than half of the gross receipts generated by all minority firms in the United States. In addition, more than half in minority firms with employees are Asian-American owned.

About the Asian American Business Association

The Asian American Business Association (AABA) is a business-development and community-outreach organization. It is not-for-profit and open to everyone. The AABA's mission is to promote economic progress, diversity and best business practices. Our goals are to promote entrepreneurship, leadership and job creation for Asian Americans and immigrants.

The AABA achieves its goals by providing resources and education that helps the Asian-American and immigrant communities to assimilate and succeed in the American economy; leverage their cultural heritage to participate in or create export opportunities; participate and succeed in procurement opportunities; and succeed in business and create jobs.
